The ground may be frozen and temperatures are plummeting but there is still lots of work to be done in the gardens at Kelmarsh.

Our gardeners have been busy cutting back the herbaceous perennials and borders and will soon start pruning the array of roses which next summer, will fill our romantic gardens with colour and fragrance.

Our team has also been digging, clearing and breaking up the ground in preparation for spring and compost and manure has gone down. In 2013, new soft fruit bushes will be settling in, along with new plantings of Mulberry 'Chelsea' and ‘Medlar',  'Flander’s Giant', Hazels 'Corabel' and 'Gustav’s Zeller'.

Gardener Caron Billington said: “Now is the time to get organised in your greenhouse or shed – take some time to clean your tools, check your seed stocks and start ordering things for next year.”

The next event at Kelmarsh is the snowdrop weekend on February 23rd and 24th, when the gardens will be open from 11am to 3pm (weather permitting – please refer to our website). Admission is £3, with children free.
