Kelmarsh Hall is appealing for volunteers who could help with a ‘Snowdrop Spread’ gardening challenge this month.

It is at this time of year that these spring flowers are dug up, divided and replanted in different areas to encourage their spread. Following last year’s successful Big Bulb Plant challenge – in which volunteers helped to plant more than 5,000 fritillary bulbs in two days – Kelmarsh Hall is holding another community gardening event which members of the public can get involved in.

The ‘Snowdrop Spread’ will take place from 10am to 4pm on Thursday 20th March in the woodland area of the gardens. Kelmarsh Hall’s team of dedicated garden volunteers will also be helping out with the event and they, along with members of staff, will be on hand to answer any questions about volunteering opportunities. Participants are asked to bring along their own gloves and trowels and will be provided with complimentary refreshments throughout the day.

Kelmarsh gardener Fiona Alexander said: “A number of people who came to the Big Bulb Plant enjoyed it so much that they wanted to be involved in future community events. They are not in a position to commit to a regular volunteer day, but are available for the occasional projects which Kelmarsh will continue to foster. The contribution of these volunteers can make a big difference to the gardens and it would be great to see more new faces at the ‘Snowdrop Spread.’”

Anyone who is interested in helping out with the ‘Snowdrop Spread’ is asked to call 01604 686543 or email

Kelmarsh Hall is in the care of a charitable trust and income generated is used to conserve the Grade I listed building and surrounding gardens.
