Jo Moore, a budding horticulturist is undertaking a placement with Kelmarsh Hall & Gardens. With the help of the Women’s Farm and Garden Association and their ‘Work & Retrain as a Gardener Scheme’ Jo has had the opportunity to develop her skills and join the garden team for a year-long placement at Kelmarsh.

With a background in design, Kelmarsh is perfect for Jo as it was once home to Nancy Lancaster, interior designer of her day, who extended her style of shabby chic charm into the gardens and drafted in the talented garden designer Norah Lindsay to help.

Kelmarsh is an ideal place to train and Jo enjoys working in a garden steeped in history. She will gain hands-on experience in the Grade II* listed gardens which are open to the public and will learn about the varied plants we have at Kelmarsh and the workings of an historic garden. Jo sees this placement as a perfect stepping stone for a future career in design and gardening.

Josh Coyne, our Head Gardener at Kelmarsh Hall & Gardens says, “We are pleased to welcome Jo to Kelmarsh. She is on a 12 months placement through the Woman’s Farm and Garden Association. In her placement at Kelmarsh she will get to understand how the garden works throughout the seasons, this will give her a great insight into how a busy garden maintenance schedule works and will set her up for a future career”

The gardens are open to the public on Sundays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays up to 29th September. The gardens will also play host to the annual Dahlia Festivals on Sunday 4th and Sunday 18th September. For more information about visiting Kelmarsh, please see the Visit us pages on our website.
