Kelmarsh Hall is undertaking its largest ever restoration project. Throughout the winter we are giving visitors and the local community the opportunity to observe restoration in action.

With a £1.3 million grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund, Kelmarsh Hall has been able to begin restoring areas of the Hall which were at risk. 'Below Stairs' areas formerly used by those who worked in the Hall will be preserved and opened for visitors to see, including a butler's pantry, bake house and footman's room in the basement of the main house and a wash room and ironing rooms in the separate laundry block.

Visitors can get involved through Heritage Restoration Tours and Have A Go Restoration Experiences. These events are free and will give visitors the unique opportunity to go behind the scenes of this exciting project.

By joining a Heritage Restoration Tour visitors will have the chance to see the important work which is going on to preserve the ‘below stairs’ areas.

By going on a Have A Go Restoration Experience they will have a hands on experience of the restoration techniques being used such as pointing, lime washing and joinery under guidance of the experts working on this unique project.

Tickets are free but there are limited places so book now to avoid disappointment!

Free tickets for each date can be booked via Eventbrite. Click the date below to be taken to the respective booking page for that event.

The dates for the Heritage Restoration Tours are:
- Wednesday 12th October 2016;
- Wednesday 16th November 2016;
- Wednesday 14th December 2016:
- Wednesday 25th January 2017;
- Wednesday 1st March 2017;
- Wednesday 29th March 2017.

The dates for a Have A Go Experience are:
- Wednesday 14th December 2016;
- Wednesday 25th January 2017;
- Wednesday 1st March 2017;

Due to the nature of the site as an active construction zone visitors are asked to bring warm clothing and to wear sturdy footwear such as walking boots or wellies. Hard hats and Hi-Vis jackets will be provided. Unfortunately due to steps and uneven ground the site is not accessible for wheelchairs. Minimum age 18.

The total cost of the project is £1.6 million. The £1.3 million grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund will be rounded up to the final total through fundraising by The Kelmarsh Trust. All donations are gratefully received. Anyone who is interested in supporting the project or would like more details can call Fundraiser Carla Cooper on 01604 686543 or email
