Special Exhibition for 2017

MacDonald Gill: Charting his Age

In 2017 Kelmarsh is delighted to host 'MacDonald Gill: Charting his Age', a fabulous exhibition of decorative maps and artwork by the artist MacDonald 'Max' Gill, younger brother of the sculptor and typographer Eric Gill. MacDonald Gill was recently described by a leading authority as 'one of the two most important mapmakers of the twentieth century.'

Highlights in the exhibition will include The Wonderground Map of London Town (1914), Highways of Empire (1927) and the GPO Radio-Telephone Services map (1935). Alongside the many wall maps are insightful case exhibits including a poignant display relating to the First World War.

Opening times: The exhibition will be open on Hall open days during the 2017 season which runs from April to the end of October (please visit our Opening Times page for details). Admission to the exhibition is included in Hall & Garden admission tickets. Please note, the exhibition is only accessible by stairs.
