The Kelmarsh Blog

More than 500 people joined in with Kelmarsh’s celebrations of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, making it a day to remember for all involved.
Despite the rain, visitors turned out in droves to enjoy afternoon tea in the marquee, watch the Queen’s coronation on screens and to listen to jazz and steel bands. Younger visitors were kept entertained with games and Bollywood dancers paid homage to the Commonwealth period associated with early years of Queen Elizabeth II’s reign.
The Kelmarsh Trust applied to the Big Lottery’s Awards For All in order to stage the event for community groups, families and residents who were unable to hold their own events.
General Manager Lesley Denton said: “We were delighted to receive a grant from the Big Lottery’s Awards For All because we were keen to celebrate this special moment in history - we thought Kelmarsh Hall was the ideal place for people to get together and celebrate a British institution.
“We’re very grateful to all those visitors who braved the rain to come along and support our Jubilee Party. It was a memorable day and we hope those who joined us will come back and visit us in the future.”
