The Kelmarsh Trust

Charity Registration Number 295154

The Kelmarsh Trust is an independent charitable trust set up in 1982 by the last family members to reside in the Hall, the Lancaster family.  The charity’s objectives are to protect and conserve the built and natural environment and welcome visitors for enjoyment and education. For more details about the Kelmarsh Trust and its Trustees visit the Charity Commission's website.

Kelmarsh relies on donations, legacies and fundraising to continue to protect Kelmarsh and keep Kelmarsh open to everyone, for ever.  We have been very grateful to many generous private donors and grant funding organisations and the National Lottery for supporting our charity.  If you would like to support the charity please contact the Fundraising Manager on 01604 686543 or email

Kelmarsh are proud to have recently restored the Orangery, relieved to have renewed the roof at a cost of £350,000 and our most recent project, the Great Hall decoration has offered visitors on scaffold tours the opportunity to learn about paint archaeology and speak to conservators about how historic paintwork can be cleaned and restored.

This year we begin our biggest project to date, the £1.5 million 'Tunnelling Through The Past' project that has received £1.2 million of Heritage Lottery funding.  This project will develop and enhance the visitor experience at Kelmarsh and will convert the stables area into a dedicated learning space.  Once complete Kelmarsh will be able to offer more visitors and school parties the opportunity to learn and be inspired within this beautiful environment.
