We are delighted to announce that our recent paint restoration project in the Great Hall is now award winning!
Earlier in July the project won ‘Very Highly Commended’ in the ‘Highly Decorative’ project category of the Painting and Decorating Association’s annual Premier Trophy Awards. The judges commented: “it is good to see such high standards of conservation work and the dedication by all concerned, leaving a finished job which will last for many years to come.”
The team then attended the Northamptonshire Heritage Forum Awards on 14th July which were held at the Bede House in Higham Ferrers. The project won the award for ‘Best Special Project’. The judges for this award were very impressed with the conservation techniques and knowledge of the staff involved. They also specifically acknowledged that the project had provided opportunities for the local community and visitors to enjoy scaffolding tours to see the work up close, and the involvement of BA Hons Conservation and Restoration degree students from the University of Lincoln. Helena Brazil, one of the students involved in the project, said: “One of the most important benefits [was] actually working on site on a project with a team of full-time professionals.”
The team at Kelmarsh would like to thank all those involved in the project including Campbell Smith & Co and Crick Smith of Lincoln.
The Hall is open every Tuesday, the first Sunday of every month and Bank Holiday Mondays until 29th September so do come along to see the finished work.
