Kelmarsh Hall featured on a new CBBC series in which parents are given a 24-hour crash course in cooking.
Disaster Chefs features children who are fed up with their parents’ lack of culinary skills and enlist the help of host Stefan Gates. He surprises mums and dads with a course in basic cooking skills before challenging them to prepare a spectacular two course meal for three mystery judges.
The half-hour episode which aired on Tuesday 25th June featured dad Tony from Desborough. Dance-mad son Kai was fed up with his dad’s duff dinners so he called in Stefan to help. Tony's challenge was to master a menu of Beef Wellington with spinach and fondant potatoes followed by profiteroles and chocolate sauce.
After being put through his paces on the crash course, Tony put his newly-acquired skills to the test in the kitchen at Kelmarsh Hall before serving up his efforts to the judging panel in the Ballroom, with Kai acting as waiter. The judges, who included Tony's best friend and one of Kelmarsh's resident cooks Maria, were impressed with the main course and commented the meat was cooked perfectly. However, time pressures meant that Tony's profiteroles were not cooked cooked for long enough, and his dessert failed to impress the judges. Sadly for Tony, he was awarded two 'Yucks' and just one 'Yumm' so was presented with the Disaster Chefs hat!
