Upcoming events at Kelmarsh Hall will go ahead after additional drainage measures were put in place to mitigate the effects of last week’s severe weather.
A mini festival for families will be held on the events site on Saturday 4th August from 2pm, sponsored by Next to raise money for the Rainbows children’s hospice in Leicestershire.
It will be followed by The Kennel Club’s International Dog Agility Trials on Friday 10th August.
Exceptional rainfall over the last couple of weeks led to the cancellation of the Festival of History weekend, after the lake and river burst their banks overnight.
However, extra measures were immediately put in place to encourage drainage - an additional outflow was put in, culverts were re-cleaned and ditches re-dug.
Kelmarsh Hall’s Operational Manager Des Brack said: “This was a very unique situation, one I’ve never seen before in the 22 years that I’ve been at Kelmarsh.
“I’d like to thank the English Heritage team and all those who helped get everyone off site on Saturday. I also want to thank all the traders and re-enactors who were still in good spirits despite the circumstances.
“We have put into place some contingency measures, although I must stress that this was an exceptional situation.”
